    Early results; early disappointments

The early results are in and I’m sad. Just when you think our society is willing to accept, you see the prejudice that resides in people’s hearts. As of now, Prop 8 is failing–54 percent to 46. It’s early–but the race is nowhere near close. I’m surprised by the results–I assumed it wouldn’t pass–but I guess that just goes to show you everyone’s opinion is different.

I really thought this thing would fail. It feels like our society is becoming more tolerant of gay people. I figured intelligent folks would see through the misleading and negative ad campaigns. And yet here we are, another civil liberty denied.

Prop 8 passing means one of two things:

    1) People truly aren’t open and accepting of homosexuals. Sure, they might say all the right things in public. But when it comes to anonymous private opinions, people hate the gays. That’s the only reason I can think of to deny them the same opportunity that’s available to everyone else. Either that…

    2) Either that or people are truly stupid. The television campaigns focused on the children. Everyone always wants to protect the children. The quickest way you can get anyone’s emotions riled up is to talk about the children. Prop 8 supporters argued that if the measure didn’t pass, the children would be “forced” to learn about gay marriage in school. Not only is that bogus, I don’t even see how it’s relevant.

What does that mean? How can you be “taught about gay marriage?” Do the voters really think a class of six-year olds are gonna be taught how to put a dick in an ass? Kids are gonna learn that gay people get married simply by watching prime time television–homosexuals are everywhere and keeping that out of schools isn’t going to make them go away. What’s the worst that can happen from children learning about gay marriage–a generation of kids who grow up to tolerate homosexuals? Sacrebleu!

It makes me sad because it gives me very little faith in humanity. People are either stupid or bigots–and neither speaks well for the human race. People are filled with hatred and repudiation…or they’re too stupid to realize they’ve been manipulated. It’s a sad day for humanity.

I am shocked–completely floored–by the number of propositions that are currently winning this election. There were 12 propositions on the ballot and all of them are winning. Voters are beyond stupid–they’re dumb sheep who will do anything a television commercial tells them to do. Do people not realize that consequences of their actions? Don’t they understand there’s no such thing as a free lunch? California is in the middle of a horrible fiscal crunch. The stock market is in the tank. The global economy is a total mess and no one knows when it will recovery. And yet Californian voters are gladly marking ‘yes’ every chance they get.

There’s a ridiculous proposition about an unnecessary and ultra expensive high-speed train…and the voters approved it! Measures to fund children’s hospitals, homes for vets, drug rehab programs, rebates for environmentally friendly cars, increased funding for law enforcement–all measures that cost money…and all approved by the taxpayers. People have to learn that everything comes at a cost. This is insane! Vote no and save yourself some money. The California government doesn’t print more money to pay for all this garbage–it increases our taxes. Nothing is for free. The money has to come from somewhere…and unfortunately it looks like it’s gonna come out of my pocket.

    You people are idiots!
