Here’s an amusing little anecdote. As some of you may or may not know, I used to be a member of 24 Hour Fitness. I stopped going for a large number of reasons, but perhaps the biggest being they were no longer open 24 hours. I’m a late night guy and was a huge fan of the post-midnight workouts. When the gym started closing at ten, it made it difficult for me to work out.
Since I’ve gotta do PT to strength my rotator cuff, I need to come up with a way to workout again (apparently playing softball three times a week doesn’t constitute as exercise). The complex I live in doesn’t have a fitness room (which is a darn shame) and my place is way too small to install a gym (hell--it’s too small to install a friggin’ couch), so I considered going the gym again--at least for a microsecond. I really don’t wanna do it. Giving the rates of modern gyms, I’d much rather apply that towards cable. Or food (side note: if I opt for the gym and cut out the food, is that a guaranteed way toget in shape?).
Friday night, I had about 15 minutes to kill until my takeout pizza was ready, so I decided to visit the local 24 Hour Fitness. I moved since my last bout with the gym and was hoping that the early close time was limited to the gyms in my old neighbourhood. I walked into the gym only to have someone rush up to me and say, “I’m sorry, we’re closed.”
“Closed? Whaddya mean closed?”
“We close at eight.”
I looked at my phone to check the time: it was 7:53.
This whole 24 Hour Fitness thing is a farce! Who can I sue for false advertising? There’s gotta be a lawyer out there willing to take my case--where is Lionel Hutz when I need him (a.k.a., Miguel Sanchez)? Not only is the local 24 Hour Fitness only open 13 hours, they actually lock the doors earlier seven minutes earlier than they’re supposed to! I’m so irate it makes me want to kill.
If anything, I suppose I should be glad--glad that before I actually entertained the idea, 24 Hour Fitness exposed itself for the fraud it is. I’d rather move to an apartment complex that has a fitness center before I’d join the gym again. 24 Hour Fitness my ass...
