In the news... Last week a dog; this week a baby. An Indiana tourist dumped her newborn baby in a Denny's dumpster this week. The police are withholding details because she's a minor...but details really aren't necessary. This isn't exactly an unusual occurrence. As horrible as it is to say, this sorta thing happens too often and the public is sorta used to it by now. But that doesn't making it any less appalling. Much like the dog, I feel no punishment is harsh enough for this woman. Some crimes are accidents: this is as deliberate as they come. She's 17 and gonna have a wide range of defenses. Shock, insanity, too young to know right from wrong--it doesn't matter 'cause it's all a load of crap to me. She didn't want her baby and threw it away like the rest of the trash. Despicable. We're too forgiving in our society--and way to lenient on scum like this. I for one hope she gets the chair. It was recently announced that a 17-year old girl was text messaging on her cell phone moments as she crashed her SUV and killed all everyone onboard. Obviously the public is horrified by this but I don't see why everyone is shock. Everyone knows driving a car and talking on the phone at the same time is dangerous. So instead of talking, this girl opted to send text messages. It's like my parents always said: safety first. I've said it once, I'll say it again: people are stupid. This is yet another reason why teenagers shouldn't be driving cars. A few weeks ago I saw a girl crash he brand new Accord (still didn't even have plates) into a bank because she was talking on the phone. I used to be against laws that banish cell phones and driving but I've done a complete 180. The majority of Americans are incapable of driving safely without the added distraction of a cell phone. I, of course, am not one of them. But to prove that I practice what I preach, I only drive and talk while wearing a hands free kit. ![]() Football superstar Michael Vick was indicted on federal charges of dog fighting. While many may debate his superstar status (he's a lousy quarterback in my book), there is no doubt of the heinous nature of these accusations. According to reports, he doused losing dogs with water and electrocuted them to death (whatever happened to the good'ole days of putting a bullet in their head). As previous stated, I am not a dog lover--but this story makes me sick. What kind sick individual considers dog fighting a sport? These dogs are trained to be ruthless and lethal--that's not God's plan for them. It's barbaric and disgusting. Of course, I think boxing is brutal and don't understand any appeal in the sport (except "Rocky"). As I was telling a friend, the sad part is I doubt Vick spends a day in jail. He'll get his high-priced lawyers to whittle the charges down to practically nothing and Vick will plea bargain to something with community service (and he'll probably turn them into United Way commercials). I hope I'm wrong, but that's always the case. Just ask Kobe. © 2007 siknerd.com
