The most important thing in life is to wear comfortable shoes. I'm not sure who said it, but I couldn't agree more. You spend a lot of time on your feet. With all the walking and all the standing one does during the day, the feet end up with a lot of abuse. Life is just so much better with comfortable shoes (except for maybe the handicap--they spend most of the day sitting in a wheelchair. And even if they did have uncomfortable shoes, they would never know because they don't having feeling in their legs). I don't understand why women where uncomfortable shoes that "look cute." No matter how good they look, it just doesn't seem worth the misery. I know I'm much rather look hideous and be comfortable than squeeze an appendage that has to carry my entire body weight into something that doesn't fit right. But what do I know: men are the ones who cover their entire face in body paint to attend a sporting event. I'm befuddled by people's laziness. Don't get me wrong--I'm a big fan of putting as little effort as possible into everything I do (look at my job performance)--but I never let laziness contradict common sense. And I think the biggest example of this is mankind's quest to find the closest parking spot. I went to college at Crap State--I know what it's like having to struggle to find a parking spot. At peak hours, I'd hafta drive around for 20 minutes just to find a spot...only to follow it with a 20-minute hike to class. By my senior year I got smart: I parked off campus. Sure, it was like a 30 minute walk to class but I was guaranteed to save ten minutes of my time. Parking at work has been a little tight lately due to massive building reconstruction--but spots are still available. Maybe not within 100 feet of the building--but if you're willing to walk five minutes, spots are plentiful. The thing is, most folks aren't even willing to look at the back half of the parking lot. I see cars swarming around the parking lot like gnats around Joba Chamberlain--completely ignoring the open spots in the back. It's crazy. They see someone walking to a car and start following them, hoping that this pedestrian has a spot nearby. It strikes me as foolish. The lemmings drive up and down aisles. When a car pulls out of a spot, three cars race towards the vacant spot. I've also seen people park in aisle they want--waiting 10, 15 minutes for someone to come and leave. It's all so mind-boggling. I'm lazy...but I'm also impatient. I think my lack of patience supersedes my lack of motivation (or maybe I'm motivated by not waiting). I like to take the first spot I see. I'm not going to waste my time and my gas just to save a few steps. Besides, last time I checked exercise didn't kill anyone (yes, I just said that)--I'll leave senseless spot-hunting for professional dry cleaners. Besides, more often than not, I'll get to my destination before them--even with the longer walk. © 2007 siknerd.com
