a man's right to choose and why some people will never be good fathers
    Saturday, February 11, 2006

A buddy and I were talking about how horrible it would be if we knocked someone up.  How neither of us is ready to be a father and it'd ruin our lives--how the male has no choices when a woman becomes pregnant.

"What I'd do," he said.  "Is wait for her to be in her third trimester than I'd push her down some stairs."

"And you'll end up going to jail," I quipped.

"I'd rather do 18 months in jail for assault than 18 years for having a kid," he replied.

And while that's pretty much the most awful thing I've heard anyone every say, he's got a point: assaulting someone and taking a life is a much shorter sentence than having a kid.

"If I go to jail, I can always get time off for good behaviour," he added.  "You don't get time off for being a good dad."

Like I said, the one of the most awful things I've ever heard--but I gotta laugh at his perspective.
