I can't dance: A White Boy's take on NAACP
Friday, August 24, 2007

I despise dancing. You can trace it back to grade school when I failed PE because I couldn’t master square dancing. Square dancing--yeah, that’s a useful skill. Way to make good use of class time.

I hate the NAACP (I hope that statement doesn't make me a racist). It's not just NAACP--I hate PETA and NOW (which would also make me a sexist animal hater)--organizations that fight so stubbornly for their cause, they're blinded by a little matter known as the truth.

Now that Michael Vick has agreed to plea guilty and become someone's prison bitch (a boy can dream, can't he), the NAACP has spoken on the issue. The president of the NAACP's Atlanta chapter is lobbying for Vick's return to the NFL after his prison sentence. He also indicated that Vick might be innocent of the charges against him and is pleading guilty only for a reduced sentence.

Huh? You got to be kidding me. Not only does the federal government have a boatload of evidence against him, Vick's three co-defendants all agreed to testify against him--one of which, his own cousin! But this evidence isn't strong enough for the NAACP. According to an AP story, the president of the NAACP's Atlanta chapter even questions the credibility of those testifying against Vick.

It's appalling. Vick is guilty as hell (which is exactly where he should be rotting for eternity)--to even think otherwise is pure stupidity. Maybe the Atlanta branch of the NAACP is just worried about how bad the Falcons are gonna be this season because no logical, intelligent human being could possibly think this is all a misunderstanding.

Then again, we are dealing with the NAACP.

And this is exactly what I mean. The NAACP is so stubbornly devoted to sticking up for black people that they fail to realize the truth: Vick is a disgusting, awful scumbag who doesn't deserve anyone's support (not even Satan). If anything, Vick hurts the reputation of black people--the NAACP should be distancing itself from this soon-to-be criminal.

Vick grew up poor in rural neighborhoods but his athletic ability got him out and made him a rich man. And instead of using his fame, money, and power for good, he decided to take up dogfighting. There are plenty of other black athletes that grow up in similar situations--they use their status for good. Instead of supporting vermin like Vick, why not praise and promote gentlemen like Warrick Dunn--athletes who regularly give back to the community.

But nope--the NAACP doesn't work that way. Once a brother makes it to the top, they gotta do whatever it takes to keep him there--even if he's more hated and despicable than your average pedophile. The NAACP thinks White America is just trying to take "a brutha down" when race has nothing to do with it: the man is guilty as hell.

A month ago, the NAACP urge people not to rush to judgment on Vick, reminding us all that he's innocent until proven guilty. We're past that point now: Vick is going to admit guilt before a judge. They have no reason to defend the guy--yet the NAACP is calling for leniency. Why? He doesn't deserve it. The NAACP should focus its attention on the advancement of colored people--not criminals like Michael Vick.

Unfortunately, they can't--not when it goes against their agenda. So they gotta issue press releases and grandstand for an individual who doesn't deserve forgiveness or mercy. It's moments like these why I don't respect activists. You gotta learn to pick your battles, people.
