Gum chewers, dog killers, & Disney smugglers
Monday, August 27, 2007

How's this for icing on the cake. According to the AP, if no one claims the dogs confiscated at Michael Vick's dogfighting ranch, the animals have to be euthanize. So if I understand this correctly, Vick is going to jail for killing dogs while a Virginia shelter is scheduled to execute 50 animals that were previously under his care. That doesn't make sense: the end result is the same--a dead dog. It almost seems hypocritical to run a guy's life over that.

In all serious, I know why they're doing it. Those animals simply can't be adopted and given to loving homes: those dogs are trained to kill. If we let them out, mankind will have to fear a superbreed of killing dogs that will wipeout humanity as we know it (a la, "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes").

It's sad 'cause those dogs are gonna be euthanize but I suppose that's better than being executed. Arresting Vick wasn't about saving the lives of the 50 dogs seized in his compound: it's about the next 50 he was going to abuse. The process had to be stopped somewhere. I just hope no one stops Vick from bending over in the prison shower.

Now for my next complaint ('cause what's an iRANT without complaining): I hate gum. I think gum chewing should be illegal--right up there somewhere in between ripping the labels off of mattresses and leaving your baby in the car without the window rolled down. I stepped on a piece of gum today with my brand new shoes and it really pissed me off.

Not enough people put their gum in the trash. Even if 98 per cent of all gum-chewers properly disposed of their gum, that still leaves too many people who chuck it on the ground. And we've all been there--everyone knows what I'm talking about: once you step in gum, there's no getting it out. And too often my shoe lace ends up being caught on the gum, making one big sticky mess.

It's really quite disgusting. Gum is someone's spit-out, discarded food: it's unfortunate that litter bugs have the indecency to leave it on the ground. Because of its sticky nature, gum collects dirt, bugs, and other unmentionables. Because it's not solid or something you can actually grab, you can't get it off. Plus it's hella horrible to touch. That sugary smell is disgusting when covered in filthy--it makes me wanna hurl.

I feel for janitors everywhere: you can't get gum out. Disneyland doesn't sell gum anywhere in the park--a little fact that upsets many guests. Why would they sell gum? The stuff is filthy. Sure, people could smuggle in their own--but Disneyland wasn't going to encourage the habit. Not with all the time and effort it takes to clean up the mess.
