How can Pig Vomit be up for an Academy Award?
    Sunday, March 05, 2006

He'll always be Pig Vomit to me.

Is there anything more boring than the Academy Awards?  Why this program is one of the highest rated programs every year is beyond me.  The movies always up for recognition and praise are flicks rarely seen by the average, popcorn-eating, movie-going American.  Going into tonight's ceremonies, "Brokeback Mountain" is the favourite to win the big awards (best picture, director).  If it wasn't for the hype machine that is the Oscars, how many Americans would know this film even existed?  And I refuse to believe that in a society where homosexuals aren't full embraced and accepted that the average, popcorn-eating, movie-going American likes this movie.  'Course, I can't bash it too much: I (like the average, popcorn-eating, movie-going American) haven't seen it.

I never really cared for the Oscars.  I realized this when I was 15 and noticed that I hadn't seen any of the movies nominated for best picture over the past three years.  My distaste for the Oscars was confirmed the year "Gladiator" won for best picture (bor-ring!) and cemented when a "90210" castoff won best actress (Hillary Swank).  And even though I swore I didn't give a damn, how in the world can "Revenge of the Sith" not even be nominated for best special effects?  You gotta be kidding me!  That movie is such eye candy that it's even enjoyable with no sound.

What the hell was I talking about again?  Oh yeah--I just flipped on the TV and saw all the "stars" walking down the red carpet.  I found the whole process sickening.  Countless media personnel were looking for interviews and I saw a pair of the flag down Will Smith and Will Farrell.  Now mind you, these are two actors I enjoy--but they but looked like total idiots during the interview.  I think it's because the media was expecting the two Wills to perform or something...I dunno.  It was just so damn stupid and I couldn't help but think "there's people that go out of there way to see this?"

The point is, the Oscars are lame and the idiots who watch are dumber than lint.  My anger has subsided (probably because I turned off the TV) and I really have nothing to say.
