A few weeks ago I wrote an iRANT regarding the negative tactics of election campaigns and what would happen if corporations used that same approach (not to pat myself too much on the back--but I thought it was pretty good). Anywhos, I was reading the news paper today and came across this comic.

While I'm sure it's just a coincidence and I'm probably not the only person to make such a comparison, I can tell you I'd feel more than honored if a nationally syndicated comic strip started using me as a muse. i know I'll never make big-time: this might be as good as it gets for me.
I don't know what this says about me, but there's something about Saddam's execution that bothers me. I'll admit I haven't exactly been following his trial and I'm not really that informed on the matter, but it just strikes me as a senseless killing.
C'mon--is there really anyone in the world who didn't think Saddam was gonna get convicted? Besides Mrs. Hussein. In my worthless opinion, the whole trial was a farce: something to prove to the world and Iraqi people that there's a new sheriff in town. The folks at Enron had a better chance of walking than this guy did. He was convicted of crimes he committed 20 years ago. I think the justice system opted to charge him with the crime he'd most likely get convicted of. It was PR trial--done entirely for show.
I'm actually in favor of the death penalty because some people are just such monsters and they really don't deserve to live. But this...I don't know--it doesn't seem right. I know I'm not entirely current with all his wrongful deeds but is hanging him really justice? Government sanctioned killing of a man who authorize government sanctioned killing--kinda of hypocritical, don't you think?
It'd be one thing if he was still a threat but the man is no longer in power--it's not like anyone has to worry about him anymore. This death sentence is entirely different than something like an assassination attempt. Assassinations are done to remove a person from power--Saddam has been stripped of his dictatorship.
Maybe I'm too merciful, but I think letting him spend the rest of his life in prison is a just punishment. Who are we--or anyone to judge? He was leader of his country--he was doing what he thought was best. I doubt we'd be able to convict our president of murder even though he's killed thousands of Americans by sending our military to overseas (then again, Bush is not a popular guy--maybe we could). The point is people in power make mistakes. Another person's perspective might not right--just different.
But like I said, I'm not entirely sure of all his misdoings. I understand the need to get him out of power. I'm not sure if killing him now is necessary. Perhaps I need to do more information before I reach an opinion...but that's kinda hard to do when you don't trust the media.
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm not as much in favor of the death penalty as I thought. If the threat is gone and there's nothing to worry about, killing someone seems like such a drastic measure. Who am I--who are we--to judge? Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone. Few people do things they know are wrong. For whatever reason, it seems right by them. All I know is that I wouldn't wanna be the one who has to make that decision.
